TWO AWARD-WINNING SW ALABAMA NEWSPAPERS FOR SALE
Publishers Dee Ann and Tommy Campbell have dedicated our lives to covering things that matter in our communities. It’s been an honor, awesome careers and an unforgettable journey, but it’s time to pass the torch and spend more time with each other, our children and grands.
We are looking for new owners for The Choctaw Sun-Advocate and The Leader, the only newspapers located in and serving Choctaw and Marengo counties.
The Sun-Advocate was established in 1890 and The Leader (under a former title) in 1879, so the newspaper is the oldest existing business in Choctaw and the second oldest in Marengo.
The papers’ circulation is strong — both print and digital — with “legals” and preprints. Both have USPS Periodical Permits and are active members of the APA.
Over the past 25 years, the papers have earned more than 500 awards for journalistic excellence in the Alabama Press Association’s Better Newspaper/Media Awards Contests, along with other state and national recognition and awards.
The Sun-Advocate comes with an established video presence — SunTV — (including video/sound equipment) which carries high school football games and community events throughout the year.
Our goal is to find someone who is as passionate as we are about COMMUNITY JOURNALISM who will take these papers to the next level. Much potential for growth is here.
No real estate involved and the price is right.
